The genus Abisara belongs to the subfamily Riodininae. The butterflies
are usually coloured a deep crimson brown, and has a characteristic way
of flitting from leaf to leaf with half-opened wings.
Abisara geza niya is one of three species of the genus to have been
observed in Singapore in recent years - the others being Abisara savitri
savitri and Abisara saturata kausambioides. It can usually be found in
shaded forest fringes, but is rather rare.
The butterfly is easily recognised by the pale subapical patch of the
forewing and the black submarginal spots on the hindwing.. |
